What is copy editing?
Copy editing is the process of carefully reviewing and editing a text to improve its clarity, style, structure and overall quality. It involves reviewing how the text is organised, its tone and style, and how it puts its message across to the target audience. Copy editing often involves restructuring and clarifying the text, removing redundant words or sentences, and making sure it’s readable and effective. The purpose of copy editing is to make the text more professional, engaging and precisely tailored to its goals and target audience. It's an important part of improving the quality and effectiveness of texts.

So if you're looking for copy editing that goes beyond the ordinary and delivers results that inspire and impress, then you've come to the right place.
How we approach copy editing
We begin our work by consulting with you, our client. We discuss the purpose of the text or translation, the message you want to put across, and your target audience. We also consider how and where you plan to use the copy.
We then review and carefully proofread the text. We focus on narrative flow, sentence structure, overall organisation and your specific requirements regarding form and function. We provide feedback with comments, suggestions and notes on how to clarify and improve the text, in order to make our method transparent.
Our goal is to work with you to create copy that you're happy with and ready for publication.

Why is copy editing so important?
Copy editing is essential for making sure texts are clear, factually accurate and tailored to their target audience. It helps to create a professional image, facilitate effective communication and provide accurate information. In copy editing, we adapt texts to suit different purposes and tailor language for the target audience. In short, copy editing is vital for ensuring texts fulfil their objectives and put their message across in the best possible way.
Copy editing also ensures correct spelling throughout your documents, which is especially critical in such things as medical texts, financial reports and legal agreements.
Copy editing in many different languages
We translate, adapt and proofread texts in the following languages:
Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Czech, Danish, Dari, Dutch, English, Estonian, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Icelandic, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Somali, Sorani, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Tigrinya, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.

Copyediting vs proofreading
Copy editing and proofreading are two different stages in the process of improving and ensuring the quality of a text. We illustrate the differences here.

Proofreading
This is the final review of a text to detect and correct spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, incorrect punctuation and other linguistic shortcomings. Proofreading focuses on the the text at the superficial level and seeks to make it grammatically correct and linguistically flawless.
Copy editing
Copyediting goes a step further. It involves a deeper review of a text to improve its overall quality. This includes looking over clarity, style, structure and making sure the text has a logical flow and is suited to the target audience. Copy editing can also involve restructuring or amending the text to make it more compelling and engaging.

Which industries do you specialise in?
Språkbolaget translates and copyedits advertising and marketing texts across all industries. These include customer and internal magazines; financial reports; legal, technical and medical texts; IT‑related, HR‑related and management texts; and public information. We also provide Easy Swedish, Easy English and audiovisual translation services. We work exclusively with businesses.
Which services do you not offer?
We work exclusively with businesses. We refer to private individuals to the SFÖ website. We do not provide interpreter services.
Can I get my translation in the same layout?
Yes, if you send us a text in InDesign or other formats, we return the translation in the same layout. We also offer additional DTP services if you need print-ready files back. Please specify this when ordering or submitting a request for quotation.
Do you do express jobs?
Yes, absolutely. We'll do everything we can to make sure you get the material back when you need it. Contact us here. Let us know when you need your translation and we'll get back to you without delay.
Pricing and delivery
How much will your translation cost?
The price of your translation is based on a combination of criteria, such as the text’s subject matter and level of difficulty; the text volume; the target and source languages; and the deadline.
Translation prices are very much about supply and demand. Some languages have fewer available translators within specific subject categories, and the prices are thus higher than for languages and subjects where there are more translators to choose from. Some languages are more labour-intensive than others, and a text may need further adaptation to the cultures of the different target countries. Upload your file for a quotation. If the file is large, we recommend you use WeTransfer.
Do you offer contract prices and volume discounts?
Yes, of course. If you have regular translation needs with large volumes, we'll be happy to offer you a contract price. Contact one of our project managers here.
Do you charge extra for express delivery?
We charge an additional 10–100 % for express delivery. Express delivery costs more because the translator has to put other assignments on hold and may have to work overtime to complete yours. In most cases, the work will be completed quickly even without express delivery, so the surcharge may not be necessary. Upload your file with the proposed delivery date for a quotation. If its a large file, we recommend you use Wetransfer.
How quickly can I get my translation?
Delivery times depend primarily on the availability of a suitable translator and the volume of text. A good rule of thumb is to assume a translator has the capacity to translate around 2,000 words per day. On top of this come project management, language checking and file handling. When you receive a quotation from us, we also provide a delivery date. If you have a specific deadline to meet, please state this in your request for quotation and we’ll take it into account. If you’re in a particular hurry, we offer an express service where you can get your text translated extra quickly. Request a quotation here.
Translation process and quality
What does your working process involve?
Our standard work process involves a native-speaking translator with specialist expertise in the relevant field who translates and reviews their own text. After that, a different translator steps in to review the text again. As a regular client, you have the opportunity to use the same translator and the same project manager every time. We can set up specially tailored work processes and workflows for different types of projects. Contact us if you'd like to discuss your project with one of our project managers. We've spent many years honing our work process. Read some of our client case studies here.
Who translates my text?
A qualified native translator specialising in the relevant subject area translates the text, and a second qualified translator reviews it, in accordance with our standard workflow.
What qualifications do Språkbolaget's translators possess?
To be approved as a translator with us, candidates must be trained as translators, translate into their native languages, keep abreast of developments in their languages, have documented experience and good references. They must also pass Språkbolaget’s own tests. We monitor our translators closely and have developed a quality control system to help us choose the right translator for a particular text
How do you guarantee quality?
Språkbolaget offers a quality guarantee for all translations. We only use translators who meet our quality standards, and we have a documented workflow that involves an additional review of all texts. However, should you not be satisfied with our work, we will revise the translation free of charge according to all applicable notes until it meets your requirements.
How do you guarantee confidentiality?
All our employees, translators and partners have entered into non-disclosure agreements. Should you require an additional confidentiality agreement, we are more than happy to sign one.
