Translation from English into Swedish by qualified professional translators

Did you know that...
Our Swedish language has a long history behind it, dating back to even before the Viking Age. However, it was from the Viking Age onwards that Swedish came to be seen as a language of its own. Did you also know that the magazine ”Then swänska Argus” (1732–1734), published by Olof von Dalin, marked the beginning of the Late Early Modern Swedish language period (1732–1900)?
Since 2009, the Swedish language has had a Language Act that regulates the language's status and use in society. The Act exists to protect the Swedish language.
One of the most common translation combinations that we are often asked about is translations from English into Swedish. However, it is not uncommon to have translations from languages other than just English, as many businesses have connections to other markets or official languages other than just English. Naturally, we also help with other language combinations than just English into Swedish when needed.
When it comes to the English to Swedish language combination, over the years we have built up a large network of specialist translators who translate from British English to Swedish or American English to Swedish. The translators have various areas of expertise, and before each translation, we carefully review the source material and then consult a suitable native-speaking translator who also assesses the material.

Our business areas
We operate within a number of different business areas such as medicine, technology, IT, law, economics and marketing. Below we outline general best practices for translating from English into Swedish, as well as more specific guidelines for each industry sector.
General tips for each business area when translating into Swedish
A good source text is the alpha and omega for the best possible translation. Make sure the manuscript text is clear in order to get as good a translation as possible. Who is the target audience for the text and what is the message? Feel free to give the translator this information as it makes it easier for the translator to adapt the text.
A well-crafted text takes time to produce, we understand that. It is often said that the preparatory work is the most time-consuming part, but it is also extremely important for the final result. Therefore, make sure to clearly communicate the purpose of the material; what you want to achieve with the text and how the material is to be used. If there is a specific deadline for the assignment, do not forget to let us know.
If you are clear about your content from the outset, this will also be reflected in the translation, as the translator will have a better foundation to work from. When translating into Swedish, it is beneficial to provide as much information as possible alongside the script. For example, the desired tone and level of style. If you have a glossary or any other business-specific information that you think might be relevant to our translation, please feel free to share that information with us as well. This is so that we can best help you achieve the high-quality translation you are aiming for.
We create translations according to your wishes and jointly review your tone and style before translation begins. We also ensure the text is adapted to your specific industry terminology.
Translating from English to Swedish should be simple, smooth and time-saving, which is why we always deliver back in the same file format in which we received the material.
Tips for translating from English to Swedish in medicine, healthcare and social care
A mistranslation in healthcare can have devastating consequences. Therefore, it is extremely important to provide as much necessary information as possible to facilitate our translation into Swedish. Good information could, for example, be who the material is aimed at. Is it for patients and their relatives, or is it for healthcare professionals? We are very pleased if we receive this information in connection with ordering the translation.
Often the translation needs to be adapted to Swedish conditions. In that case, it is helpful for our translators if they receive information about this when placing the order.
Tips for translating from English to Swedish in technology and IT
Technical translations from English to Swedish require a high level of industry familiarity from the translator within the specific field the text concerns. Both in-depth technical knowledge and precision are required.
Whether you need to translate your user manuals, website translation, or other documentation, it is always helpful for us to know how the material is to be used. Is the material for internal use or is it aimed at consumers, retailers, and subcontractors? If the material contains units of measurement, for example, it is also important that these are adapted in the text to suit the target audience and/or market. One such example is if the source text contains the unit of measurement inch and the translation is into Swedish. In such a case, the translator adapts the unit of measurement to Swedish conditions.
If there is any reference material that could be relevant for our translators, or certain specific industry terminology that should be included when translating from English to Swedish, please let us know when submitting the translation.
Tips for translating from English into Swedish in law, economics and finance
Regardless of the industry and operations conducted, every company always has a wealth of legal documents and financial documents. Sometimes you need help with translating these documents into Swedish. Here, Språkbolaget gives you some tips on what to keep in mind when translating financial reports or translating legal documents from English into Swedish.
When translating an annual report or a quarterly report, you need to plan your translation in advance, as it is usually complex and involves many stakeholders. Many also choose the same translator they have worked with previously, who has come to know their business well. Therefore, make sure to book your translator well in advance so they are not booked up with other work at the time your company is in need of translation assistance.
We will go through the schedule together with you. What might be good to prepare ahead of a translation is the following:
- What deadlines do we have to work to?
- Would you prefer deliveries of the texts as you go or a single, combined delivery?
- Does the translator need to be on standby for any corrections after the translation delivery?
At our company, your safety is important to us. Therefore, everyone works under confidentiality so that you can feel secure about what you entrust to us during the translation. We can also draw up separate non-disclosure agreements for assignments that require it. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
When translating legal documents, it is important to provide information about the type of translation you require. Does the document require a certified translation with a stamp or a standard translation without a stamp? A certified translation into Swedish is a verified translation that is always presented as an original on paper and contains the translator's name, the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency's (Kammarkollegiet) stamp with a unique translator ID and a certificate confirming the translator's responsibility for ensuring the translation has been correctly performed. Certain Swedish authorities and courts, as well as other institutions and organisations, require the stamp for foreign documents to be legally binding. It is important to understand that the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency's authorisation is not a quality stamp for all types of texts. For example, there is no Swedish authorisation for medical texts. The Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency also only authorises translators who translate to or from Swedish.
Tips for translating from English to Swedish for communication agencies, advertising agencies, or internal marketing departments
It is not unusual for companies to hire external agencies to help with their communications and marketing. We at Språkbolaget are then frequently asked to translate things like a website, social media posts or marketing copy. However, what we are rarely told (unless it is obvious from the translation material) is who the end customer is and what their requirements are. For example, what style and tone of voice should the translation maintain? Therefore, when translating from English to Swedish, it is important to let us get to know your end customer through a brief introduction. This can range from preferences regarding tone of voice and style, to specific words that need to be included in the translation for better search engine optimisation. Other information that is good for us to know is: who is the target audience for the text to be translated into Swedish? It is better to provide us with too much information than too little, and all information helps us to deliver a high-quality Swedish translation to you and the end customer.
